I teach 8th grade science. I could use this blog in my classroom by posting homework to it for the students and parents. I could also post links about the content that is taught in 8th grade science. I could post in depth questions and debates for students to discuss with each other on the blog as well. They could do research with the links I post and then have a debate with each other about the data that they found.
Shelby,
ReplyDeleteI think the idea to provide a forum for debate amongst students is a wonderful way for you to incorporate your blog into your lessons and student l earning. The one thing that could potentially become problematic is if these debates amongst students get too heated. This is something we must anticipate as educators and we must decide what we will do if this problem were to occur. Even the most responsible students can get too emotional and say something they will regret. What would be your plan if these debates do get out of control?
One thing I would suggest is to take some preventative measures to head this issue off before it ever becomes a real issue. Discussing the importance of showing classmates respect as they debate topics and understanding that a disagreement in a debate should help both students learn, not turn into something more. How do you think you will address this potential challenge?
